Micro blogging

May 7, 2011 - One Response

I do so much random micro blogging between my personal facebook page, my dezdeals fan page and twitter that I haven’t kept up much with my actual blog. I’ve also been blogging a lot more on my dezdeals blog about couponing, free samples and grocery deals since the coupon craze started. Every little thought I have I post on Facebook or Twitter and I always mean to elaborate in a real blog and well, clearly I’m not. I’d really like to though so maybe you can keep me accountable?

Juice cubes

February 24, 2010 - One Response

My Little Man doesn’t get full juice or full chocolate milk, I’ve always halved it so he doesn’t get all that sugar. All his food was steamed, mashed, chopped and 100% mama made for the first 14 month on his life so he doesn’t have a taste for all that juiced up, preservative soaked, processed stuff anyway. Will he eat an entire Snickers bar if I hand it to him? Sure, he’ll try but he would only get a couple bites in before the amount of sweet is enough.

Bad idea = BK for dinner. Good idea = Taking the HI-C you just ordered and putting the contents into an ice cube tray to enjoy one cube at a time in a glass of filtered water. Save calories for me, save sugar content for him, plus we both get more of that healthy H2O that we all need more of.

I couldn’t decided where to put this, savings money on juice at dezdeals, a cool in the kitchen idea for howdoibowlwater? or here where it was about saving my kid from child hood obesity and healthy living choices. The kid won.

Do you have any awesome ideas you’ve came up with lately?

Whitmans Sampler BOGO free = bad buying decision

February 12, 2010 - 2 Responses

I tore into that free box of chocolates before I even let a voice of reason pass through my head. I had the Caramel first, then the Cherry Cordial, then the Molasses Chew before I even knew what happened! As I drove back to school I went back and forth through the Chocolate Covered Peanuts and Chocolate Covered Almonds noting how much more I liked the Almonds because they’re crunchier. Then it hit me. The omg-I-just-chewed-down-5-pieces-of-chocolate-in-15-seconds and my. stomach. was. pissed! Still is, in fact. Bleh.

I ate them in this order in all of 15 seconds...

What was your last binge on?

What’s your favorite candy?

Tell me I’m not the only that’s done this…?

My son takes over the bed. No really, he does.

January 21, 2010 - Leave a Response

He is 4, he is barely past my hip tall and he takes over my California Queen. No seriously. I have to pick his nearly 40 lb butt at 3 o’clock in the morning and shove him over to the other side of the bed. What is it with these kids and using their tiny little bodies to take over my beauty rest space?!

For example:

I have all of 24 inches over there to lay down.

I have all of 24 inches on the left there to lay down.

You didn’t believe me did you? You thought, not possible. Oh it is. And now I have photographic proof! Ha!

I’d also like to point out although I do have about 24 inches to lay down with, if I make the slightest movement I ram my head into the corner of my side table. Ask me how I know that? Go ahead, ask me. Annnnnd let us not forget that tiny little foot on the other side of my pillow. If it’s not a head knock from the side table, it’s that tiny little foot. Awesome.

With that, I bid you goodnight.

If I had all the money in the world

January 20, 2010 - Leave a Response

If I ruled the world.

… to give to my family.

I would buy my son a house for us to share with that “liiiiittle tiny” dog he wants. I would make sure the house included his own room, playroom, bunk beds, and of course a yard to play in.

I would buy my mom out of debt.

I would buy my dad all the land he wants in Alaska and enough supplies to build his very own log cabin. I would also buy him that Harley he’s dreamed of his whole life.

I would pay off my brothers mortgage.

I would pay the Army enough money to get my sister Lacie and her husband Bene (and Baby Riley) stationed here in Washington.

I would buy my grandma another “once in a lifetime” trip. Maybe back to Africa, or where ever else she wants to visit.

I would buy my grandpa a lifetime membership to his golf course and a chance to pick up whichever new clubs he thinks he needs right now. My Grandma knows what that means. 😉

I would buy my other grandparents whatever they wanted, to make them move back to Washington.

And if there was a way, for my Aunt Joey (and all of us who miss her), I would bargain with God and get my Grandma Ginny back.

What you buy for your family members?

What you buy for your friends?

What would you buy for yourself?

Every passing minute is another chance to turn it all around.

Carpe diem

There are three kinds of people in life:

→ One. The people that make things happen.

→ Two. The people that watch things happen.

→ Three. The people that think WTF happened?!

I’d like to say that I’m number one (in more ways than one… pun intended), but I really can’t say for certain where I fit in the majority. I am a get-what-I-want-type-of-gal, and if I can’t have it now you can bet your ass I’ll find a way to get it… eventually. I’m also a person that sits back and watches, waking up the next morning kicking myself for not taking that chance. Finally, I must admit there have been times in my not-so-distant-past where I find myself thinking, or even saying out loud, WTF just happened?!

I think the majority of people reading this can place yourself in all of the categories listed above… at least at one point in your life.

But that’s not the question I want to ask you, the question you should ask yourself is:

What kind are you today?

Art

November 9, 2009 - Leave a Response

I love art in every shape or form. The creativity that goes into art is amazing and I can’t describe how influential it is for me. I love physical artwork such as paintings, drawings, sculptures, and of course media art like graphics, movies and cartoons.

musicI love the art that you can feel like the written word and all genres of music. I can honestly say that there isn’t one type of music that I don’t find interesting and mostly enjoyable. I can’t say I love every genre, but I can say I respect the music. I respect the time and emotions that go into writing a song or picking up a guitar and making music from it. Amazing. Some songs are so emotional that they make the hair on my arm stand up and I’m absolutely emersed in it. In the lyrics, in the melody, in the chorus. One song that comes to mind is Christina Aguileras “Beautiful”, I can’t tell you how much I love that song. If you’ve never heard it go now, run fast over to iTunes and check it out. Simply brilliant.

Speaking of guitars, I used to play an instrument, an Alto Saxophone in fact. I played it all through middle school and a bit of the drums after getting bored. By high school I had figured out what all the popular kids were doing and it wasn’t band. I followed the crowd and put down the Saxophone and have always regretted it. I wish I would’ve kept with it or least kept the Saxophone and continued learning. Shame on me.

I actually grew this and photographed it.

Photography is another art form that absolutely blows my mind. Within the past couple of years I’ve become more and more addicted fond of  photography and the amazing things 1 click from a camera can capture. I love catching those moments that no one meant you to see or that smirk that you made for just a second. Taking pictures of objects is my passion though, nature inspires me. I find myself gazing at the clouds a lot and wish that I could capture their texture in a photo. I know it’s possible I just don’t have the right equipment yet. I’m taking a course (hopefully) Winter quarter and can’t wait to learn more. I’d love to eventually do some freelance work as a photographer, even something simple like a wedding/engagement photographer.

Here’s a few pictures I’ve taken in the past several months.

Just a glimpse of blue sky

Here’s a shot I took with my iPhone. I wish you could see the brilliance in the purples and the bright blue peaking though in the distance, it was gorgeous.

Brilliant colors at sunset

As I was pulling out my driveway I stopped at the light and couldn’t help but be amazed by this sunset. I grabbed my trusty iPhone and grabbed a shot. The pinks and contrast blues were breath-taking.

The calm after the storm

This was taken directly after a crazy storm. I was so astonished to find this crisp blue sky starting back at me I had to take a picture, yes with my iPhone again… I really need to start carrying my camera with me.

moneytree

This is the day I bought it

More recently I have been into gardening and all things green. It occurred to me this is an art form too especially landscaping and The Art of the Bonsai. I’m currently growing four Bonsai plants. Little did I know it would take years before I could begin the intricate trimming of the Bonsai. Oh well, I think it’s better this way so when the time comes I will be much more invested in the project. I also have several plants on my desk at work including a Bamboo, a Money Tree, and a planter with several types of flowers in it (a gift from a customer). My desk is so much more cheerful and inviting with the plants on it. Now I need more in my house.

Cooking, what about cooking and baking, is that an art form? I think so. I think it’s ridiculous(ly cool) what people can come up with and how good it tastes when you grab a fork and shovel put it into your mouth. From combining just the right ingredients to the final presentation, it’s all art.

Here’s a delicious Cinnamon Raisen Bread I made yesterday.

It takes a tribe…

October 29, 2009 - Leave a Response

…to raise a child. I really do believe that. A lot of people ask how my son is so well adjusted to the custody arrangements my ex-husband and I have, and how smart and well mannered he is. They tell me a story about how their kid screams every time they’re at the grocery store or how they have a horrible habit of spitting on the mirror and rubbing their hands through it. Oh wait that last one was my kid… You see my kid isn’t perfect either. But the compliments I get about him are all true and he is in fact well adjusted, smart and well mannered.

I think the reason why is because he’s picked up things from all of us, his family, all of us have something to give him. He says please and thank you and knows how to politely interrupt when the adults are talking. He tells me I’m beautiful even when I haven’t put my make-up on. He doesn’t scream, yell or kick when we are out in public, he’s just a good kid. So long as he has his nap mind you, he is still a four year old (in December-eeek!).

Next time someone asks me how I got so lucky I’ll tell them, it takes a tribe.

kiddo

My little man

I’m so thankful for that little boy, he is the best thing that ever happened to me. I can’t wait to see you in December little man!

The early bird gets the worm?

October 22, 2009 - Leave a Response

Are you early, late, or right-at-the-tip-of-the-hour on time type of person? I’m the right on time type, like 9 o’clock on the money, I’m walking in the door. I’d like to be the early type but I value my sleep far too much. Sometimes I’ll get in the habit of getting up a little earlier which puts me out the door and to the office early, but not consistently.

I know, I know if I just set my alarm 15 minutes earlier it would make all the difference. I used to preach that to my 20 person collections team back in the day. Maybe I’ll add that to my 101 goals? I’ve been looking to replace a couple that seem silly to me now.

So again, which one are you early on-time or late? What’s your morning routine that get keeps you that way?

I love me some cheese

October 16, 2009 - Leave a Response

Cheese is like what, old dairy right? Well I love it, can’t get  enough. You know when your slicing or grating cheese, that little pile? Yeah that little pile can ruin a whole day of dieting. A lot of  calories for a little cheese. Protein, calcium and fat, it’s all there.. On my thighs.

Enjoy your tacos, I know I will.
